Modify A 1 Year Old BH

2 week ago, i get a call from Mr S. He asking my help to visit his BH that located at Alor Setar. This BH is 1 year old and already have 16 finish nest and have more then 20 nest mark. However, this population are not increase for more then 3 month!!! After visit and verify the error of this BH, we decide to modify the LMB and the roving area. Why ????

1) The roving area is too small and the LAL between the LMB is too far , about 18 feet from the LMB. This roving is only 7 feet X 18 feet x 8 feet . Swiftlet need more space during the first visit to a new BH, So we change it to 20 feet X 28 feet X 9 feet to enable the bird play around in this roving area.

2) The LMB for this BH is not facing the flying path of the bird. So we going to change it to the flying path and the old one we still open it because the old bird is already there.

3) The temperature in this roving area is too high, about 34c !!!!. We going to built a zinc roof on top and do some isolation at the roof top

4) The top floor is licking. During raining , all the water are going insides the BH.

This project will finish in 1 week time. So i will post the latest pictured to share with all my reader.

The Size Of LMB

How big is the LMB should be in a BH ????
Below is the spec !!!!
1) The LMB is depend on the BH size.
If your BH is larger enough, then we can open the LMB more bigger. Why ? Because there will still have more space on the dark side and the bright side.

2) What is the design of the BH ? Open Roof ? Window type ?
This is due to the wing( air ) effect and due to the " Pencuri "

3) Where is your BH located at ?
Are this BH is stand alone or shop lot ?

From the pictured i attach, the LMB size is 5 feet X 7 Feet !!!! This BH is a open roof type and it is stand alone BH that is located in the middle of the padi Field. The external roving area is 20 feet X 40 Feet and have a small pool at this area. The internal roving area is also 20 feet X 40 feet.
In 3 year time, this BH already have 3000 nest. Very good result !!!!!

Walet Center At Pontianak

More then 10 bh are built in this area side by side and 2 more new is coming up. Are all this BH is success ? According to one of this BH owner, population of swiftlet here is very high. Normally, a new BH here can get 30 finish nest in 3 month time !!!!!! Not bad isn't !!!!!!

How Old Are They ?

From the pictured, what conclusion that we can make ?

1) All the nest is built at the corner board.

2) All the nest is built at the corner board that have no gap !!!!!!

3) Most swiftlet are in pair !!!

All of this pictured is taken during the visit of Jungkat Beach. Is a very good place for the human and of cause swiftlet.

How Dark Is In The BH

During the Pontianak Trip, we are visit some BH there. One is a very success BH that can get 200 more nest in the 8 month and one is only have 7 dropping in the 3 month time. This 2 BH is built at about 5 km each other. Why this will happen ????

At the success BH, the most qty of the bird nest is at the most brighter place.



So, what we can conclude here is , when we going to built a new BH, we should design it in the both way. Need to have the bright side and the dark side. So we can let the bird choose where is the best place to built their nest.



The first nest at all my BH is located at the brighten side.

Finally At Home

Last night we took a flight from Pontianak at 1035am and we arrived at Kuching At 1115am. At kuching, my sister is waiting us at the Kuching International Airport. We took a round trip at the Kuching Town and took same pictured there. However, at the town center, we did not saw any BH. From my observation, there a few Swiftlet are flying at the sky. Maybe i will do my Bird call test next time.

At there, they are sell a lot of bird nest product. The unprocessed is about RM6300 per KG. We spend about 4 hour at there.

We took the 830pm flight from kuching to KL. Arrived at KL is about 1030 pm. We took a bus and arrived at Alor setar on 8am in the morning.

What a good trip and a tried day.

Pontianak Trip ( Sungai Punyu )

Today wake up about 8am. Taking a shower then to breakfast. About 11am, we go out to the BH project land and then we go to the Sungai Punyu. This is the center walet park. More then 20 BH at there. What i saw is, more and more still coming up there. But i just saw few bird that are flying around only ? However, i still can not post all the pictured because my M2 card holder is broken. So i have to get a new one when i back on 20 Okt.

The Jungkat Beach BH total finish nest after we count is 176 and the marking nest is about 38. So the total is 204. Very good performance. After we count , we have a lunch there and talk with this Owner, actually, this BH only operated about 7 and haft month only. Very good result right !!!.

The new 2 in on the progress. I will show all the pictured when i back to Malaysia. Phone is ringing now, one of the swift let farmer is here to take us for dinner, so bye.

Pontianak BH at Jungkat Beach

Yesterday i took a bus from alor setar to kl for a trip to pontianak. I arrived at KL about 3 am. wait one of my friends to take us to the airport. We took Airasia about 830am to Kuching. At kuching, we meet with Mr HArry. Then we took a Batavia to the Pontianak. We arrived at Pontianak about 2 pm. Today, pontianak is running. However, we can saw a lot of bird is flying back to the BH about 330pm pontianak time.

The attachments is the BH that is located at Jungkat Beach. This is the sample house of this project. IN 2 MONTH time, we can get improve of 80 finish nest. So, total is already 170 nest in 8 month time !!! We hope that we can get 1000 nest in one year time. Due to today is getting dark already, so we will go in and have a final count tomorrow. So , tomorrow i will post some pictured for all of u.

The size of this BH is 8meter X 20 meter.

Converted a New BH

This pictured is the layout of this new BH.

This is the ' Monkey House'. The size is (19 w) X (15 L) X ( 8H). U can see the LAL. All this Monkey House is fill with water and a Pam is attach in this small pool to make this water move. Y ?!? It can cool the water down. So all this Monkey House with be in good Temperature. Around ( 25 to 27 ) only. The LMB is about 4 X 5 feet.

After the semen, we can see all the tiang had remove. All the support wood is remove.

From this pictured, we can see the LAL of this BH. The LAL size is about 4 feet by 8 feet.

All the nesting plank is attach at the top with the silling board. Then need some tiang for holding the roof. The size of this small box is 1.5 feet X 4 feet.

New BH Design

This Design is one of my BH. This is 3 level BH. PLease have a look and mail me if have any ideal on this design. A small pool is attach in the ground floor to control the Humudity of this BH. The roof is from zink by isolated with polyform and 2 inch semen board.

Very Big BH

This BH is located at Perlis. Near Kuala Perlis. This BH size is 100 X 80 feet. I think this BH is the larger one at Perlis.

Bee Bee Bee

Today wakeup in the morning about 730 am due to want to verify a place that going to setup a BH. This place is located Near Jitra. It is about 25 minuts drive from jitra. After switch on the tester for 5 minuts, we can see about 50 bird is fying on top.

After that, i went back to my shop about 11 am. few minuts after that, i get a sms from my partner show :-

" i saw few bird are entering this new bh and have some flying on the top "

I reply to him said

" very good"

then few minuts again, my HP bee again. My partner sms me again show :-

" At this BH have no bird flying on top now "
So i reply to him " Why ? Anything happen to this BH ? R the sound system is ok ??"

Then he reply that:-

" Ha ha ha, all the bird now are in this BH, so there is no bird flying on top la."

I ask him to stay there and monitor when the bird are coming out from this BH. But after few hour, he call that the bird are still in this BH. So, the conclusion that we can make is , the bird already like this BH and like the sound that we play in this BH. Hopefully, after few week, we can see the nest marking.

Very busy day. Now, i just having my lunch n still need to go back my shop. I have few project that need to finish. I need to finish all this job before 13 because need to meet my partner at Pontianak for this Jungkat Beach Project.

Jungkat Beach BH Project

THis 15 Okt i will fly to Pontianak Indonesia for our BH project. This is a big BH project that i located at the Jungkat Beach. Is just need 20 minuts from the Swiftlet Part at Sungai Puyu. The attachments is the BH house Plan. 98 BH that will be setup at this piece of land. I will attachment more progress in this project from time to time.

This area is a Paya area. About 100m is a big river and 150m is a Sea side. Opposite this area is a small island that is a very good food source for this swiftlet. In this land, we also build a man made pool. the size of this pool is about 100m .

We already setup 1 BH at this place for R&D. After 7 month,we already have more then 150 nest insides. This BH will Be our display house. Hopefully we can get 500 nest in a year time.

Opening A new BH

Today, i just start my new BH. About 10 am, we start to switch on the Power Amp and after 2 minuts, the bird is cycling on the top of this BH. They fly around the open roof and then after few minuts , the bird start to entering this new BH. We can monitor it by using the CCTV.

After 1 hour , when i switch on the CCTV again, i can saw more then 10 bird are hanging on the tweeter.

We lock this new BH and hope that after 1 month, there will be a lot of bird droping in this BH.

Seminar At Jakarta

I already attend a lot of seminar for this few year. But the best seminar is Pak Hen one. After joint the second seminar of Pak Hen at Pontianak, i can improve a lot of my swiftlet farming skill. From there i know that i already did a lot of mistake at my BH. After i modify it, the population is getting more and more. So, for this seminar, i also don't want to miss it. New Swiftlet House Setup

This is a new shop lot that we convert it into swiftlet farm. The size of this BH is 20 X 70. We used the open roof concept. The open roof size is 12 X 7 feet. The roving area is 15X15 feet. We install the nestting plank with size of 2 X 4 feet. There are no corner board. With this design, we manage to control the temp range. about 27.7 to 29.2 only. We already take the data for 1 month to make sure all the design and the system is function good before we start the sound system.

Low Cost BH

This BH is located near Tg Dawai, Kedah. This area is full with swiftlet. After we did the caling test for 5 minuts, more then 1000 bird is flying around here. This BH is make from contena. The owner connect 4 contena into one and then add the semen to close all the gap between the contena. Insides this contena, the owner plug in the semen board and between it, the owner add 2 inch of polyform. Very good ideal. He do all the isolation by polyform and add the Exzos fan at the top floor too.

Bird Nest Mark

Today i very happy. Why? after 3 month of modify an old BH that attack by Owl, finally have a new nest mark now. This BH is located near Jitra. total marking is 3 and have more then 20 bird dropping spot. By this progress, after 2 more month, there will be more then 20 nest. After i add some aroma insides and verify all the tweeter, i lock this BH again and will cek it on this Dec.

Swiftlet House Layout

The pictured is the design of one of my low cost BH at Kedah.

Size is 19 feet by 54 feet.

The roof is from zink but we isolated it by 4 inch semen and 2 inch poliform.

The ground floor wall is made from 9 inch semen bricks but the second floor is from light weight bricks.

From this isolated design i managed to control the room temperatured about 27 to 31.

A small pool attach in the roving area of this BH. The roving area size is 18 X 19 feet.

My Swiftlet Story

Hello to all Swiftlet Farmer. How are you and what is the progress of your swiftlet farm !!
I am new guy in swiftlet farming. All this is started on 2002. I joint this farming due to the effect of my uncle. We started our first BH by 'upah' an swiftlet 'consultant ' from KL . But after year and year, there are no swiftlet that enter our BH. After that, when we start to call this ' consultant' but this guy already change his HP number. Start from that day, i start my study about this swiftlet.

Let me introduce a little of mine first:-

I finish my degree in Communication Eng at a local university at 2006.
I start to setup an electronice shop at Kedah at 2002.
I started my BH at 2002.
I married at 2005.
I have 2 princess.
I already have x BH but all is joint venture.

After saving my fisrt BH at 2004, i started to built one more at 2005. I am getting more and more 'minat' with this swiftlet and planing to have full time in this business.

I start this blog because want to share all the swiftlet information with all of u and hoping to get some opinion on all of my design.
